5 easy ways product makers can be eco-friendly

Cotswold Poster Co started life as a side project but sustainability has been at the heart of business from day one, to make sure what I was doing didn’t add to a climate crisis.

Here’s how I've done it, which can hopefully inspire some other creators out there too:

  1. All of the posters and greeting cards are printed on 100% recycled paper. There are some excellent UK printers specialising in this, using fine art digital presses to create long-lasting, quality prints.
  2. All of the packaging is recyclable, and all of the envelopes, boxes, and bags are made with recycled, unbleached paper. It’s now easy to find plastic-free packing tape, biodegradable stickers and clear wraps made from corn starch – making them fully biodegradable too. See the full list of Cotswold Poster Co packaging here.
  3. All products and packaging are sourced/printed in the UK – no flying involved.
  4. The scheme 1% For The Planet is an initiative where companies give 1% of their income to environmental causes. Being near the border of two counties, 2% of all Cotswold Poster Co income goes to Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Wildlife Trusts (split equally). They are great organisations for supporting plants and animals right here with programmes to rewild and enhance our native environments.
  5. We’re proud that our stockists are small local businesses. Some even specialise in great recycled products such as Maker Culture in Cirencester and Renew in Malmesbury.
